Ride Group Structure

CMCC road rides are organised into groups based on average speed and riding style.

Our groups range from Social C rides through to faster A group rides, with options available for both newer and more experienced riders.

SUNDAY CLUB RIDES

Our main Sunday rides are organised into multiple groups based on pace and typically focus on social and group riding. Distances vary depending on the group, route, and time of year. Some Sunday rides may include a café stop depending on the ride distance and the plans set by the ride leader. Sunday rides start from The Unicorn in Wilmslow.

Thursday Night Special (TNS)

The Thursday Night Special (TNS) is one of the club’s most popular evening rides. These rides start from Bramhall and are split into groups based on pace and riding style. TNS rides are typically shorter two-hour rides designed for evening training and social riding and do not include café stops. The rides operate throughout the year, subject to weather and riding conditions.

Friday Slackers Ride

The Friday Slackers ride is a popular Friday morning ride starting from Brook Lane Café in Wilmslow. These rides are organised into different groups depending on pace and riding style, including both social and faster-paced groups. The rides typically do not include café stops during the ride, as many members meet at Brook Lane Café afterwards. Friday Slackers rides take place throughout the year, subject to weather and riding conditions.

Saturday & Ad Hoc Rides

Additional rides often take place on Saturday mornings, along with ad hoc rides organised by members throughout the week. These vary in distance, pace, and location depending on the ride and time of year.

OFF-Road, MTB & Gravel Riding

CMCC has a strong and growing off-road section which is very popular with members throughout the year. Regular mountain bike (MTB) and gravel rides take place on Tuesday evenings and Saturday mornings, led by experienced ride leaders. The club’s off-road community includes riders of different abilities and experience levels, with routes varying depending on terrain, conditions, and the time of year. Whether you’re looking for social gravel rides, technical MTB routes, or off-road adventure riding, there are regular opportunities to get involved.

Group Riding & Ride Etiquette

To help ensure rides are safe and enjoyable for everyone, riders are expected to:

ï‚· Ride safely and respectfully within the group

ï‚· Follow ride leader guidance

ï‚· Communicate hazards and changes in pace

ï‚· Ride in a predictable and considerate manner

New riders will be introduced to basic group riding etiquette during the introductory ride process.

Meet Josie

Josie joined Cheshire Maverick Cycling Club towards the end of 2018 and has since become an active and valued member of the club.

She regularly rides with the Social C and C groups and has worked her way up to becoming a Ride Leader. Josie now leads rides for both groups, helping members enjoy friendly, supportive and well-organised club cycling.

Her time with CMCC has also taken her beyond local club rides. She has completed the Maratona and Dolomites in Italy and joined the club’s trips to Mallorca, where she has taken part in the Mallorca 312 sportive on more than one occasion.

For Josie, being part of CMCC has provided opportunities to experience memorable cycling events, travel with fellow members and give something back to the club through ride leading.
